Siena

Siena is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy situated in the middle of Toscano's heart between the Chianti Hills and the Maremma area. Originally Siena was an etruscan town, which later was conquered by Roma and placed under this rule. Its prime was in the Middle Ages where it was founded as a municipality. Siena’s relationship to Firenze has been marked by long conflicts and wars all the way back to the year 1555 when Firenze withdrew from Siena. Siena is very rich in art, and twice a year the two parts of the town challenge each other with horse racing on the Piazza del Campo square.
